I’ve tried several times to keep a blog, but they always seem to fail due to lack of either interesting activities, or the failure to document interesting activities when they did occur. I like to think my life has become more interesting since I graduated college. I’ve gone on several extended trips to far and outlandish places and have a host of interesting projects and hobbies to occupy my time outside of work. Even my work has picked up and become more interesting over the past year. Perhaps having a place to collect this mish-mash that happens to be my life and activities may also be an inspiration to spend more time working for myself and less time wasting it.

A short introduction might be in order: Hello, my name is Kina Smith, and I like to know how things work. I tinker, I build, and I am constantly learning new things. I’m currently learning about LED lights, and in the process building some. This pursuit is mostly geared towards bicycle lighting of the dynamo variety currently, but I have aspirations of expanding into the battery powered realm once I get some funds together to invest in some Li-Poly batteries. I’ve also done some experimentation in color mixing lights with Red/Green/Blue LED’s, but as of yet I haven’t hashed together a functional variable constant-current driver circuit.
One of my project dreams is to create a dynamo powered grounds effects for my bike, but it’s on the side-lines right now.
I also am a proud owner of a monome alternative computer interface, and enjoy strange kinds of electronic and digitally manipulated music. I tinker with the max/msp programing language and when I have time I try to make my Arduino do odd things.
This will be a blog of my activities in life, and as it progresses will give a better image of myself than this cocked up introduction.

Keep close to Nature’s heart…and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.
